"Surrender Mandala" by Vikki Reed
For some time, I had been getting the guidance to bring forth a mandala on surrender. For me personally, it had been a time to surrender needing to know the "how". Surrender to me does not mean "giving up", but rather giving over.
What does surrender look like? I didn't know! Having recently read a statement by an author (Lucile Allen) "my wounds had become my weapon", it seemed fitting to me that surrender would mean laying down my weapons.
On September 26, 2005, the mandala began with an axe, a symbol of power. The axe handle doubles as the support for white flags. Next the moon in four stages, full, waning, new and quarter, representing the cyclical nature of life.
To surrender is to be free. The broken chain is shown next. The eternity symbol is superimposed over hearts, as is the rune for surrender, which resembles the letter R.
There are eight meditating figures (surrounding ego) with the image of a heart in an open hand on the chest of the figure. The figures are connected by ribbons of light penetrating areas of darkness. The background color appeared as a peaceful sky blue, instead of the mango I had originally planned.
After much work to surrender my fear of not knowing, and my need to be right, the last symbol for the mandala became apparent, the suggestion of a butterfly, representing transformation. "Surrender Mandala" was completed November 7, 2005.
Nearly a year later, I read a statement by author Edward Grinnan beautifully capturing the essence of "Surrender", "It is in surrender that we find victory!" |
